Review: Papa Roach – ‘Crooked Teeth’

Papa RoachWhen I heard that Papa Roach had released a new single, I was like, “Ahh! Must. Hear. Now!”, and then when I heard the single ‘Help’ from new album ‘Crooked Teeth’, I was absolutely blown away. I can’t even remember the last time I heard a song and just wanted to keep it on repeat, to feel unfulfilled after the first listen. Honestly, no words could even begin to describe how excited I was to hear this album, none at all! Papa Roach have been a favourite band of mine for many years, so when I saw this album I just about shrieked like a little girl with excitement. It’s been two years since Papa Roach released ‘F.E.A.R’ (another brilliant album, may I add!), so yeah… We’ve been waiting a while for this one.

My favourite track hands down has definitely got to be ‘Help’. It holds strong similarities with their 2004 release ‘Getting Away With Murder’. ‘Help’ really reminded me of ‘Scars’, for a few reasons. Firstly, I remember being addicted to that track as much as I am this one – so there was the nostalgia factor. Secondly, it was just SO damn catchy. It’ll have you singing your little heart out! Thirdly, and quite simply, it’s bloody Papa Roach at their finest! I really loved ‘My Medication’ too. A raw honest track with Jacoby Shaddix once again referring to his mental health issues from over the years. It’s great that someone in the limelight, with a very open platform, is able to speak about these sorts of difficulties and share them with the world… to be able to reach out to others to help too. Another few of my favourites are ‘American Dream’, ‘Periscope’, ‘Born For Greatness’ and ‘Sunrise Trailer’.

To be perfectly honest, I really loved every track from ‘Crooked Teeth’… they’re all so catchy! It’s an absolutely phenomenal album, 100% worth the couple of years wait! I loved the depth, the sound, the lyrical content, the artwork, the old school vibes, the nostalgia, the realness, the hooks, the riffs, the quality, the maturity, the difference between tracks. Papa Roach are one of the best rock bands in the world right now! They never fail to disappoint, definitely not to my ears anyway! 10/10.

‘Crooked Teeth’ is out on the 19th of May 2017. Pre-order the album here.
